I was called into children’s ministry by God when Pastor Steve announced to the congregation that there was a need for a children’s ministry program and to pray about how God is leading you. God touched me at that moment. Of course, I was hesitant at first. I remember thinking, “Maybe I will just volunteer to teach Sunday School until the church finds and hires someone for the position.”
One day I was sitting in the Chemo clinic, my Mother-in-Law was having treatment, and I would always use this time to work on a Bible study. A gentle lady with a kind, friendly smile approached me and asked me if I was studying to become a Youth Pastor. I asked her what made her ask me that, she said, “I don’t know. Something just told me that you would be good at it and, you are always studying the Bible.”
At that moment I knew what God was asking me to do and I said, “Yes.”
I feel that it is especially important that children see their parents living and modeling out the things that they are being taught. If a child has a firm foundation built together with their parents, they are more likely to stay in a church as an adult.
